The pictures above are pretty self-explanatory. This story formed the basis for the previously mentioned historical novel: "Widow of the South"The McGavock plantation was about 2 miles from the actual battle, and did not see any direct action, but the Confederate army drifted this way the next day, and their home was turned into a makeshift hospital - there are still bloodstains on the floors. 6 Confederate Generals were killed during this battle, or died shortly thereafter from wounds, 4 of them were laid out on the back porch of the house.
